APPLICATION TIPS

If you are considering applying for our Teacher Training Programme, you need to ensure that your application stands out from the crowd.
Remember, first impressions count and the panel will want to see evidence of why you are the ideal applicant. To make sure the ideal applicant is you, it is essential that you demonstrate your potential and suitability for the training through your application. Be specific, give clear examples and let your personality shine through. Don’t leave anything to guess work, ensure the panel is left in no doubt about how you meet the requirements for entry on the training.
 

 

In order to ensure your application is the best it can be, consider the following:

 

 
  • Use the STAR technique – to enable you to use specific examples from your experience to evidence how you meet the entry criteria and key competencies (below)

   

   S           What was the SITUATION? Provide an overview to set up the example.

   T           What was the TASK you were undertaking?

   A           What was the ACTION you took to resolve the matter?

   R           What was the RESULT of the situation? Was it a positive outcome?

 

  • Demonstrate how you meet our key competencies:
         Creativity  
         Professionalism                                                                              
         Teaching and Learning                                           

         Communication                                                            

          Subject Knowledge                                                

  • Refer​ to Teaching Standards
  • Note any relevant experience(paid and unpaid) within a school, club etc with children, including your school experience days. What have you learnt from this?
  • Refer to your classroom style or visions for teaching
  • What qualities do you have that will make you an excellent teacher?
  • Avoid copying and pasting policies, statements or buzzwords that you think the panel will like. They are interested in you, someone else's words or uninteresting cliches.
  • Be honest, talk from experience and your beliefs
  • What are you passionate about?
  • Why do you want to teach? Make sure your passion comes through in your personal statement.
  • Be enthusiastic and positive about what you hope to achieve from the training

  • Ensure reference details are complete and current.
  • CHECK YOUR SPELLING AND SENTENCES ACCURACY
