Teacher Subject Specialism

We run a personalised Teacher Subject Specialism Training course for non-specialist teachers of maths and physics, and former teachers who are returning to the teaching profession can complete subject specialism training in secondary maths (and cross phase maths) and physics.

This training is delivered completely free of cost to participants and is provided to:

  • improve the maths and physics subject knowledge of non-specialist teachers through school-led teacher subject specialism training opportunities. This includes:

  • non-specialist teachers who could teach maths or physics in addition to their main subject·

  • teachers who want to retrain as maths or physics teachers

  • support teachers wishing to return to the profession

As part of the training you are also able to study for 30 Masters Credits.

Physics (Secondary)

This course will develop your knowledge and skills to become a specialist teacher of Physics at both Key Stage 3 and 4 (including links to GCSE Astronomy).

As well as providing you with the understanding and depth of knowledge this course will also develop your skills, enhancing your pedagogy, assessment strategies and practical skills.

The course will be delivered online utilising a range of targeted tasks, webinars and facilitated online discussions. To further enhance this there will be a series of individualised face to face twilight sessions delivered throughout the course.

You will be provided with your own subject mentor who will support and facilitate your learning and development throughout.

The course is fully personalised to meet your needs making it ideal for all types of teachers including returning teachers. You will take part in thorough self-analysis throughout the course which will enable both you and your mentor to identify areas of strength and improvement. This will guide your learning and practice as well as the content of delivered sessions.

We work closely with a range of partners to enhance our course and as part of the course and all participants will have the option to work towards master’s credits.

 

Maths (Secondary)

This course will develop your knowledge and skills to become a specialist teacher of Mathematics at both Key Stage 3 and 4 (including GCSE Mathematics and Further Mathematics).

As well as providing you with the understanding and depth of knowledge this course will also develop your skills, enhancing your pedagogy and assessment strategies.

The course will be delivered online utilising a range of targeted tasks, webinars and facilitated online discussions. To further enhance this there will be a series of individualised face to face twilight sessions delivered throughout the course.
